Country Discoveries magazine bills itself as "Your Guide to Great Backroads Travel." Each issue is jammed packed with short articles on places to go and things to see in the United States and Canada. Everything is organized by region -- a handy map at the beginning of each issue shows the locations of the features within the mag.
Maps ... now there's a novel idea! Where this publication excels compared to many other travel magazines, is that it includes both written directions and a small map showing the location of many of the sights.
For example, in one issue is an article on a sculpture garden in Cochrane, Wisconsin. How many of you know where Cochrane, Wisconsin, is? I thought so.
With many other travel mags, I would have to go get out my atlas and look it up. With Country Discoveries, all I have to do is look at the bottom corner of the page and I see driving directions and a small map.
Many of the articles are submitted by readers, as well, giving this magazine its own unique flavor.
Unfortunately, Country Discoveries is no longer publishing; the only way to get them is to find them as back issues.
