As the amount of vehicular traffic began to grow in America, our system of U.S. highways became clogged with cars and trucks, and became more and more dangerous. With federal roads running right through small-town America, something had to be done to keep traffic moving smoothly.
The government's answer was to re-route many highways away from small towns and cities by building bypasses. Many of those communities suffered from the loss of traffic as motorists sped by without stopping for food, gas or shelter as they screamed toward their destination.
This area of Redhighways.com will take you on a journey through some of those communities that were bypassed, but not forgotten.
